हिन्दू मंदिरों के मूल रूप में निम्नलिखित अवयव सम्मिलित रहते हैं-
1. गर्भगृह
2. मंडप
3. शिखर
4. वाहन

गर्भगृह- इसे गर्भगृह कहा जाता है। यह एक छोटा कक्ष या कक्षिका होती है। इस पर मंदिर के प्रमुख देवता को स्थापित किया जाता है।
Garbhagriha (Sanctum sanctorum)- This is called Garbhagriha. It is a small chamber or chamber. On this the main deity of the temple is installed.
मंडप- यह मंदिर का प्रवेश स्थल होता है। यह द्वार मण्डप या सभा भवन हो सकता है। सामान्य रूप से इसका प्रयोग मंदिर में बड़ी संख्या में पूजा करने आये लोगों को स्थान देने के लिए किया जाता था।
Mandap- (Pavilion) This is the entrance point of the temple. This gate can be a mandap or a meeting hall. It was normally used to accommodate the large number of worshipers in the temple.
शिखर- ये पर्वत के समान होते थे। इनका आकार पिरामिडीय या वक्ररेखीय हो सकता है।
Shikhar (Peak)- These were like mountains. Their shape can be pyramidal or curvilinear.
वाहन- यह मंदिर के प्रमुख देवता का वाहन या आसन होता था। इसे पवित्रतम स्थान के ठीक सामने स्थापित किया जाता था।
Vahan (Vehicle)- This was the vehicle or seat of the main deity of the temple. It used to be installed right in front of the holiest place.
